In addition to violent conflict, human migration and displacement is being driven by the impacts of climate change. Across the globe, unpredictable and extreme weather patterns are creating unsustainable living conditions that are forcing millions of people to flee their homes in order to survive. People displaced as a result of climate change are known as “climate refugees” and are NOT protected under the 1951 Refugee Convention. For many this issue seems like a world away, however none of us are immune to the devastating effects of climate instability and without drastic intervention, we can only expect that the number of displaced people from natural disasters will continue to increase.
